Gentrification of the inner city of Český Krumlov
PROKŮPKOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor´s thesis explores, identifies and analyses eventual manifestations of gentrification in the Inner city of Český Krumlov. Part of the thesis is an outline of theoretical approaches in the area of gentrification. The analytical part is derived from different, but overlapping approaches: gentrification as a class colonization, gentrification as a capital investment, gentrification and social disparities. As a prerequisite for confirming the course of gentrification, the creation of a rent gap in the examined area is analyzed. Another identifier of the course of the process in the area is the displacement of the original inhabitants.

Social Class in E.M. Forster's Howards End and in Zadie Smith's On Beauty
Lacková, Štěpánka ; Topolovská, Tereza (advisor) ; Higgins, Bernadette (referee)
This bachelor thesis compares and contrasts the depiction of social class in E.M. Forster's Howards End and Zadie Smith's On Beauty. The theoretical part introduces the concept of social class as well as its portrayal in Edwardian literature and in contemporary British literature and also in the works of E.M. Forster and Zadie Smith. Due to the apparent connection between the two texts, an overview of intertextuality and its functioning in literature is added to the theoretical part. The practical part of the paper interprets On Beauty as a pastiche of Howards End but mainly provides the analysis of the two novels in terms of their view of social stratification, in particular the differences between upper middle class and working class. Key words: Howards End, On Beauty, E.M. Forster, Zadie Smith, social class, middle class, working class, intertextuality

Štofaník, Jakub ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Rákosník, Jakub (referee) ; Katuninec, Milan (referee)
Between Cross and Hammer. Reception of Social Thought in the Catholic Church during the First Half of the 20th Century ABSTRACT The thesis examines the construction, development, transfer, and adaptation of Catholic social thought in the first half of the 20th century. Social Catholicism is understood not only as a concept defined by the social teachings of the Church in the form of encyclicals, but primarily as a collective social practice present in society in various forms. From this perspective the thesis contributes to the debate around the secularization discourse and the role of religion in modern society. The analysis of the Social Catholic movement is done in two different national contexts: Belgium and Czechoslovakia. Comparative method finds its place dominantly in the second part of the study, which puts together the network of Social Catholic organizations and different actors in both countries. The focus on the discourse and social practices of Social Catholicism and Catholics' involvement among the working class tries to reinforce connections and links within ecclesiastical, social, and cultural history.
